Chicoutimi businessman Simon Sirois grew up in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici, on the Gaspé Peninsula, the oldest of 11 children. He was bold, forward-thinking and creative – a risk-taker with a sharp entrepreneurial mind and a keen interest in new technologies. This interest led him to found Setelco, a pioneer in paging systems, in which he sensed a huge commercial potential. In addition to this, he owned a consumer credit reporting company and a seniors’ residence and actively invested in the raw materials market.
On the home front, Simon was a family man, with three children: Charles, Claire and Josée. He and his wife, Colombe, wholeheartedly embraced the values of giving back and reaching out to others. As such, they took in Simon’s younger brother, Denis, while he was studying in Chicoutimi, at the request of their mother, for whom education was a top priority. Simon took his son, Charles, under his wing at a very young age, teaching him the ins and outs of the business world and laying the foundations for the entrepreneurial tradition that has come to be associated with the Sirois family.
